Garden plants for 2017
By now, the 2017 garden plant season is behind us, and we can relate that our customers really appreciated the new varieties added to the various Nolina series. As usual, there was a high demand for varieties in the Clematis Boulevard® Collection - including the unique Nubia™ red variety. Our Clematis assortment was also expanded to include two new very attractive collections: the Paillette® Collection with its very floriferous varieties bearing unusual bell-shaped flowers, and the Garland® Collection distinguished by its long period of continuous flowering and its masses of flowers.
We also made a good start with our new Agapanthus Summer Love BlueTM. This is a striking African Lily (or, as the name of this variety suggests, 'flower of love') that retains its compact habit and bears attractive blue flowers on exceptionally strong stems. Summer Love BlueTM produces flowers all summer long! If you would like to know more about all the developments at Nolina that are coming up in 2018, please do not hesitate to contact us!
The Plantarium will be held in Boskoop, the Netherlands from 23 through 26 August. Together with rose breeder Poulsen Roser, we will be there to inform you about our new collections and varieties. The theme this year is 'Stories', so we would like to hear your own story about what happened during last year and what your expectations for 2018 are. If we have missed seeing you at previous events, be sure to visit our stand this time! We will also participate in more trade fairs this autumn:
The Royal FloraHolland Autumn Fair will be held on 13 and 14 September. This is where we will present our entire collection of pot roses. This will also provide the perfect opportunity for us to get together with you to evaluate the recent garden plant season and to discuss options in relation to the special flower and plant (festive) days and dates for 2018.
Needless to say, we will also be present at the Trade Fair in Aalsmeer, the Netherlands from Wednesday 8 through to Friday 10 November. And just like the Autumn Fair, we will be happy to inform you of developments coming up in 2018. See you there!
Nolina: building towards the future
After a year of preparations, the construction of a completely new cogeneration plant has begun. Nolina is investing in a sustainable future that takes advantage of the latest technologies intended to take good steps toward maximising the efficiency of our energy consumption.
The replacement of our existing plant will take about 25 weeks in total. The new plant should be in operation by the beginning of the fourth quarter of 2017.
Throughout the year, we continuously test and evaluate our new and experimental varieties of pot roses, garden plants and garden roses. By setting up variety trials we find out whether we have developed new or improved colours or whether we have made progress in improving keeping quality or habit. One of the results of using this method was the replacement of our light pink variety, PatioHit Lux, with PatioHit Catalina, that displays an exceptionally good keeping quality. After all, this is an important factor for consumers when it comes to purchasing Nolina roses time after time!
